On local Television here in Reno Nevada, especially with high gas prices, they push “Monthly passes” showing how much you save compared to driving to work.

I live in San Diego, Ca and our public transportation here is a joke. Come to think of it, our public transportation here doesn’t advertise at all. Even if they did, they would not have anything to market to the public anyways. I could just see it…
“Ride the tolley! Drive 10 minutes to a trolley station since they are nowhere near any neighborhoods, hunt for another 10 minutes for a parking spot, pay too much for a ticket, sit next to a crazy lady that smells weird for 45 minutes to get 10 miles since our trolleys are slow as hell, and make sure you get back before 11PM because we don’t like to operate at night! Have a nice day!”
Honestly, aside from buying the car, on a day to day basis its faster, easier, and cheaper to just drive than to take public transportation in San Diego. The opposite is true in Paris, great metro system. It will take you an eigth of a mile from wherever you need to go.
