National Express or Megabus…links below….National Express over-night coach is probably the best bet. Leaves at quarter to twelve. Around 6 1/2 hours travel time. £33 return or half that if you’re under 25 or over 60. Reliable, set your watch by them normally. I’ve used Nat Ex for years, all over UK, never a problem anywhere. The most reliable transport system in Britain, honestly…thank God something works right.. .Comfy coaches, and they don’t hang about. In and out quick. Get the passengers on,pull out…gone! Be in time, preferably 5-10 minutes early..they don’t wait…very efficient, but friendly and nice…always good staff..Lots of luggage space in the hold for big stuff, and take smaller bags in the cabin with you for snacks, books, whatever…print the ticket at home,or get it sent to your mobile(50p fee),or collect it at Newcastle bus station,or have it posted….sometimes have super-cheap offers, and always concessions for age groups (except Fridays) … http://www.nationalexpress.com … If you get an error code, just try again…they get busy. Maps available in the boxes just right of the timetable list to show bus stations,pick-up points. Click on the small box on booking page to get on the e-mail list, with news of offers, including £1 deals etc…worth keeping up with. Also try Megabus, which is now run by Stagecoach…sometimes very cheap deals…I did Liverpool/London return for £6 with them once…not too bad that……http://www.megabus.com/uk

National express has an advert on tv which says you can get to London from a £1.

other than that i’d say the cheapest option is probably by train (id use the west coast line as it would be direct to london rather than changing at manchester.)

national express coaches will probably be the cheapest now, if you had looked earlier you might have been able to get cheap advance tickets on your local trains.

    Nationalexpress.com coach – about £33 return
megabus.com coach – it will be about £40 return.
Flying with FlyBe to Gatwick £175
nationalexpress train about £240 buying two single tickets.
Virgin Trains I’m guessing similar as above.
